Are you still wondering which is the easiest and the best way of cooking millets? Well your quest ends here. We invite you to glide through the perfect way of cooking millets in under 30 minutes.

Millets do not contain gluten and can withstand high temperature and water stresses. They are rich in fiber, protein and antioxidants. Let millets become your wholesome best friend.

Ingredients Required

The amazing part of cooking this naturally gluten-free diet is the handful of ingredients, i.e., millet grain and water.

Steps To Cook Millets

Using a stovetop pan, an Instant Pot and a stovetop pressure cooker, are three simple ways to cook millet. All of these techniques take less than 30 minutes to prepare a perfect millet. However, the initial two steps would be common in all the cooking methods.

Preparing Them

If or not bought from the supermarket, make sure to clean them by washing them with water multiple times. These can be then kept aside after draining excess water.

Soaking The Millets

Although this step is optional it can be done for about two hours to soften them.

Instructions For Stovetop

Heat up a cooking vessel with a thick bottom. Water and the drained millet should be added to the cooking pot before the lid is partially closed.

Use 1.5 cups of water per cup of soaked millet. The ratio of unsoaked millet to water is 1:2. (For each cup of millet, use 2 cups of water).

Turn up the heat all the way and let the water boil. About five minutes will pass.

Now turn the flame down to a low setting and fully close the lid.

Cook the millet until all of the water has been absorbed. For pre-soaked millet, it will take 6 to 8 minutes, and for unsoaked millet, it will take 10 to 13 minutes.

By the time all the water has been absorbed, the millet will be cooked. Now extinguish the flame and leave it alone for an additional 10 minutes.

The cooked millet is ready to serve after 10 minutes of cooking, when it may be fluffed up with a fork.

Instructions For Instant Top

To the inner pot, add the millet when it has been drained, water, and a teaspoon of oil. For information on the quantity of water, consult the millet water ratio section.

The steam releasing valve should be turned to the sealing position before you fully close the lid.

If you are using millet that has been pre-soaked, choose manual or pressure cook mode and cook it for 4 minutes at high pressure. Using unsoaked millets, cook it for 8 minutes.

After you're finished, turn it off, give it 10 minutes, then release pressure normally.

The millet can be served after being fluffed with a fork.

Instructions For Rice Cooker

Add a teaspoon of oil, drained millet, and water to the inner pot of the rice cooker.

Use 1.5 cups of water for every cup of millet if it has been soaked. For unsoaked millet, use two cups of water for every cup of millet.

If your rice cooker has settings you may choose from, use the white rice setting and cover the pot with the lid. If not, choose the cook button.

Turn off the rice cooker after it has finished cooking and give it ten minutes to cool. The millet can now be served after being fluffed up.

Once the cooking has been done, there can be endless possibilities of garnishing this wholesome meal with creative ideas. The plating can be done as per the occasion and an everyday meal.
